Notes:

The village of Lake Ann, Benzie Co., MI was named after Ann McBride Wheelock. She was the first white woman in Benzie County. The Indians loved her. Lake Ann (the lake in the village) was also named after her. She is buried in Greenbriar Cemetery, Lake Ann, MI. She died very suddenly from pnuemonia. Even though there was a severe snow storm, at her funeral, the house was packed full to overflowing. She was admired by all in the village.

Notes:

The family was enumerated in the 1900 U.S. census, living in Hamburg, Erie Co, NY. Per census, Irene and Clifford had been married for four years, suggesting that the 1 Aug 1897 marriage date given in "Ontario Marriages, 1869-1927" is incorrect. The date was more likely 1 Aug 1896, which fits better with the 18 Dec 1896 birth date of their first child, Esther. This might also explain why they were married in Canada, just over the border.

They were again in Hamburg in 1905 (NY state census). In 1915 the family was again in Hamburg - minus Irene and Clifford A. who are not listed.

Per obit, published 26 Nov 1930, he was the husband of Edith M. (Oakley) Wheelock; father of Mrs. Howard Koch, Harold of Los Angeles, Allen, and the late Clifford Wheelock. Burial at Prospect Lawn Cemetery.¹
