Her parents were both born in Kentucky. (Source: 1900 Federal Census, Kansas, Decatur County, Allison Township, pg 148.)
Aaron Hammond is the son of Sarah Bartlett (of Sutton, MA) and Aaron Hammond. His immigrant ancestor is Thomas Hammond from Lavenham, England, who removed to Newton, MA. He was a farmer and Captain of the militia in Cheshire, Berkshire County, MA.
The inscription on Aaron's grave reads as follows:
"Tis sweet to turn the happy spirit free, Forever bless'd the Father Hammond, Oh may we meet our challenge with laughing eyes, Oh may we part with ardor for the skies, Praise God when we resign our mortal Breath, and Triumpth in the solomn hour of Death"
(Source: Private records of Beverly Rainey, descendent of Aaron Hammond and Esther Wheelock)
