The census, marriage records, and vital records of New York and Massachusetts are remarkably silent about Rena Baldwin.
The 1880 Census entries for her children indicate that she was born in Connecticut. (Src: 1880 Federal Census, Lewis Wheelock, Colden, Erie Co, NY, Enumeration District 85, pg 217B; 1880 Federal Census, Joseph Wheelock, Villenova, Chautauqua Co, NY, pg 98D; 1880 Federal Census, Harmon Wheelock, Hamburg, Erire Co, NY, pg 404A; Homer Wheelock, Pomfret, Chautauqua Co, NY, pg 404D).
There are three headstones in the Prospect Lawn Cemetery that have Rena's name on it. The first is that of her own. This headstone refers to her as Rene. The second is that of her daughter, Scinda, which refers to her as Rena. The third is that of her son, Zenas, which refers to her as Rene.
Rena's headstone reads as follows:
In Memory of Rene Wheelock, wife of Silas Wheelock, who died Jan. 18, 1833, age 55 years. [There is a further inscription, but it is unreadable.]
The marriage record for John F. Wheelock and Laura Eaton indicates that this was her second marriage. Her maiden name was probably Ingram, as this was her fathers name in the marriage record (MA 79:2).
