Benjamin was born in South Orange, MA. He settled in North Brookfield, married, and removed to Wyoming Territory. He served in the Civil War; was mustered into service on 3 Feb 1862 with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, serving for North Brookfield. His genealogy is written in the "History of North Brookfield, MA", by Josiah H. Temple; and appears next to that of Rufus Wheelock, also of North Brookfield, who had a son, Joseph, in South Orange. The Brookfield marriage record for Benjamin and Jane identifies Benjamin's father as Rufus (vol 101, pg 172).
