John Wheelock was executor of the estate of his great uncle, John Wheelock (ABT 1707 - 1778) of Lancaster. In the will, he is referred to as John Junior. The Lancaster Vital Records also refer to him as John Junior, perhaps to distinguish from his great uncle.
"The Willis Family of Sudbury, MA", by McTeer and Warner, NEHGR Vol. 114, 1960, indicates that John Wheelock m. Sarah Willis. The record of this marriage is found in the Sudbury VRs. John's mother, "Mrs. Allis Wheelock of Lancaster", married Jesse Willis, Sarah's father, just a year later, also in Sudbury.
According to"New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial", Cutter, Lewis Historical Publishing Company, 1914, Pg 1277, John Wheelock lived in Leverett, Hampshire Co, MA, and deeded lands to his brother, Abel Wheelock, of Boston, rights in the estate of his uncle, John Wheelock, and in the deed mentioned his brother Oliver, who was also a legatee of John Wheelock. The deed is dated 15 Dec 1800, and is found in Book 192, pg 103 of the Worcester County Registry of Deeds.
The 1790 Census shows John Wheelock living in Leverett, MA, with 1 male over 16 (himself), 2 males under 16, and 3 females. He lived in Leverett from 1789 to 1809 (Franklin County Deeds, vol. 25, pg. 639).
John Wheelock probably served in the Revolutionary War, and is likely the John Wheelock of Lancaster, Fifer, who is frequently referred to as John Junior in the service records. Several of John's brothers also served: Archippus, Oliver, and Joseph.
Eight children of John and Sarah are listed in "The Willis Family of Sudbury, Mass", NEHGR, Vol. 114, 1960, all found in the Leverett vital records.
