Daniel L. Wheelock moved to Moline, Illinois, where he became a very influential civic leader. He engaged in the bakery business, having the first steam bakery in the village. He was the first mayor of Moline, defeating John Deere by a margin of 368 to 192. Later, he moved on a farm in Iowa, but when ready to retire, returned to Moline, where he died. Daniel and his wife Ruth had no children. (Source: A History of Moline, published on the World Wide Web, by the Town of Moline, Illinois. Also "Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois, and History of Rock Island County", by Newton Bateman and Paul Selby, Munsell Publishing Company, Chicago, 1914, page 1492, 1494) The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900 gives a marriage date of 1 Jan 1851 for Daniel L.
