Thomas Wheelock is presumed to be the son of Levi Wheelock and Hepsibeth Mitchell based on a land transaction recorded in Fairfield, Franklin Co, Vt, in which Addison Wheelock and his wife Mercy sold land to Thomas Wheelock, 31 Mar 1857 (Vol 15, 1855-1861, Pg 248). Thomas then sold the land to Elizabeth Coburn, 6 June 1857 (Vol 15, 1855-1861, Pg 274). This same plot of land appears to have been owned (or near land owned) by Levi and Hepsibeth Mitchell (Vol 14, 1851-1855, Pg 32).
This may be the Thomas Wheelock that settled in Hancock Co, Iowa, in 1856 or 1857. He married Christine Sheaf 14 Apr 1861. (Src: History of Winnebago and Hancock Co, Iowa, A Record of Settlement, Organization, Progress, and Achievement", Vol I, The Pioneer Publishing Company, Chicago, 1917; Pgs 221, 240). Lending some further credibility is the fact that his cousins (once removed) Harrison Wheelock, born about 1837 in Vermont, and John Wheelock, born about 1841 in Vermont, also appear in the 1860 Census in Iowa.
