In 1850, John Hedges was a farmer, age 27, living in Colden with his wife Elizabeth, also 27, born in New York. Josephine, 6, and William, 4/12, both born in New York, were also living in the household.

In 1860 he was a lumberman, 38, living in Colden with Clarinda, 24, Josephine, 14, and E W D Hedges, 3. Elisha and Stephen Hedges were both listed on the same census page.

In 1863 he was from Colden when he registered for the Civil War draft, age 40 on 1st July 1863, lumberman, born New York. Stephen J. Hedges, 36, also from Colden, is adjacent to John in the registration booklet.

In 1865 he was again in Colden, with Clarinda, 22, Edward, and Mary, age 2, all born in Erie County.

In 1880, John, 56, and Clarinda, 47, were living in Sardinia, Erie County with their children Eddie, 22, Lewis, 15, and Mary, 17.

This may be the John Hedges who in 1892 was 70, a farmer, living with Anna Hedges, 56, in Ashford, Cattaraugus County, New York.

In 1900 he was living with his daughter, Mary Brady, in Portage, Potter County, Pennsylvania.

In 1905, John R. Hedges was living in Colden with his daughter, Josephine L. Hambleton, and her husband, Henry.

There is a long expose on John Randall Hedges in the 1 Feb 1906 edition of the Springville Journal.¹

No probate records have been found.

Cyrus Wheelock was an active leader of the Mormon Church during it's founding days, and was one of the last people to be with Joseph Smith, before his death. Here is what the LDS Biographical Encyclopedia says about him:

Wheelock, Cyrus Hubbard, president of the Northern States Mission from 1878 to 1879, was born Feb. 28, 1813, in Henderson, Jefferson Co., N. Y., a son of Asa Wheelock and Lucy Hubbard. He was baptized Sept. 1, 1839, filled a mission to Vermont, and other missions to the States in early days. His labor with Governor Ford in behalf of the Prophet Joseph Smith and others, while they were incarcerated in Carthage jail, is a matter of history. He was a gifted orator, and was set apart May 6, 1878, as president of the Northern States Mission, then comprising Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. He returned in August, 1879, and died Oct. 11, 1894, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah.
