Notes:

Contrary to Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County, Massachusetts ... by Ellery Bicknell Crane, it is unlikely that Lydia Kelley married Isaac Patrick, as is asserted there.¹ Instead, she married Zadock Bellows, in Warren, Worcester County, Massachusetts, 12 July 1795.² The couple moved to Essex, Chittenden County, Vermont, where Zadock Bellows wrote his will on 27 Aug 1845, leaving his entire estate to his wife, Lydia.³ He died 4 Sep 1845, and is buried in Essex, Vermont.⁴ His wife, Lydia, died 10 Aug 1852, age 78 years, and is buried next to Zadock.⁵

The marriage to Zadock Bellows is proven by a Worcester County deed, dated 19 Mar 1802, in which the children of Robert Kelley sold land they inherited from him to Joel Kelley of Barre, Worcester County. The grantors included Chapin Kelly of Augusta [New York]; Robert, Henry, and William Kelley, all of Western [now Warren, Massachusetts]; Abner Kelley, Rachel Kelley, John Bacon and Abigail his wife, Asa Newell and Ruth his wife, Thomas Town and Mary his wife, all of Charlton; and Zadock Bellos [sic, Bellows] and Lydia his wife "in her right" of Esecks [sic, Essex, Vermont].⁶

The possibility must be considered that Lydia Kelley did in fact marry Isaac Patrick, but that Isaac died almost immediately after their marriage in Charlton 12 Dec 1793, after which Lydia married Zadock Bellows on 12 July 1795. But no record of death for Isaac Patrick has been found between 12 Dec 1793, and 12 July 1795. However, records do exist of Isaac Patrick dying in Warren on 27 Apr 1812, age 72.² Per his probate records, his wife was indeed Lydia, but it must have been a different Lydia - not the daughter of Robert Kelley who was, at the time, married to Zadock Bellows, and living in Essex, Chittenden County, Vermont.⁷ In all likelihood, Isaac Patrick's wife was Lydia (Marrs) Kelley, widow of Robert.
