Jonah Wheelock

Birth: 19 Aug 1788, Charlton, Worcester Co, MA

Death: 2 Apr 1831, Charlton, Worcester Co, MA

Burial: Northside Cemetery, Charlton, Worcester Co, MA

Father: Adams Wheelock
Mother: Lucy Lamb

Spouse: Elizabeth R. Jordan
Marriage: 12 May 1828, Thompson, Windham Co, CT

Notes:

Jonah Wheelock of Charlton and Elizabeth R. Jordan of Thompson, Connecticut, filed intentions in Charlton on 29 Mar 1828.1 The married in Thompson 12 May 1828.2

There is no record of children born to Jonah and Elizabeth in Charlton or Thompson.3

He died intestate; his estate, which was insolvent, was administered by his father, Adams Wheelock.4

Research Notes for Jonah Wheelock:

No heirs were mentioned in his administration of estate, nor were any creditors with surname Jordan.

There was a family living in Dudley and Thompson with surname Jordan in the right time frame. The family was headed by William Jordan and Comfort Palmer who had ten children between the years 1770 and 1794, some of whom are found in the Dudley VRs, and some in the Thompson VRs.5 The family apparently lived in "Killings bounds, close by Dudley line.".6

Online genealogies do not list Elizabeth R. Jordan in this family, but there is a six year gap in births between 1784 and 1790 that might represent a missing child. However, neither the age of Elizabeth on her gravestone (36), nor her age in the Charlton vital records (38) place her birth within this gap (off by at least two years).

Further research suggestions: Review the land records for this family in Dudley, Massachusetts, and in Thompson, Connecticut, to see if there is any connection to the Wheelock family.
