Notes:

His death record implies a date of birth (10 June 1806) that is earlier than his parent's marriage. Yet the 1806 birth date is consistent with the 1850, 1855, and 1860 census enumerations.

The marriage notice for Joel and Mary is published in the 18 Feb 1832 edition of the Columbian Centinel, and indicates that Joel is from Boylston, and that the two were married in Grafton.¹

Joel is identified as the son of Josiah and Thankful Wheelock in his 13 Dec 1856 Worcester marriage to Sophronia Reed (MA 101:279). He is also identified as the son of Josiah and Thankful of Concord, MA in an 1819 guardianship (Middlesex County Probate Records, case 24388) in which he is identified as a minor, under the age of 14.

His 1864 Worcester County administration of estate (case 63706) indicates that there is "no widow", and lists his children: William Wheelock, in the army, stationed near Richmond VA; Martha Blankenhorn; and George W. Wheelock, in the army, stationed near Blacksburg, VA. John Blankenhorn, his son in law, is appointed administrator.
