Research Notes for Josiah Fassett:

Josiah Fasset was the son of Benjamin Fassett and Elizabeth Parks, who were married in Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, 4 Feb 1713/14.¹

Benjamin and Elisabeth moved to Pomfret, Windham County Connecticut, where Elizabeth died on 18 Aug 1757.²

Benjamin Fassett then married Eleanor Adams in Brooklyn, Windham County, on 5 Feb 1758.³

Benjamin died in September or October of 1764. He made his will 15 Sep 1764; it was allowed 15 Oct 1764. He named his wife Eleanor, his eldest son Benjamin, second son John, third son Adonijah, fourth son Josiah, whom he named executor, and his only daughter Elizabeth Tyler.⁴

Benjamin's first wife, Elizabeth Parks, was the sister of Zaccheus Parks, who died intestate in Lincoln, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, 27 Jan 1792.⁵ He had no spouse or children, leaving as heirs his siblings, their children and grandchildren. The Middlesex County land records have several deeds in which the heirs of Zaccheus Parks relinquish (for a fee) their rights, as heirs, to the estate of Zaccheus Parks. One of them, Middlesex County deed 120:27, Elijah Thayer et al to Samuel Parks, dated 5 Jan 1793, includes as grantees: John Fassett, Adonijah Fassett, and Elizabeth Tyler, along with other relatives of Zaccheus Parks living in Brooklyn and Windham County, Connecticut, including Hannah (Thayer) (Fassett) Pike.

Consequently, both Josiah and his wife, Hannah, were heirs of Zaccheus Parks, which explains why Josiah's siblings appear in the Middlesex County deeds relating to his estate.

On 6 Feb 1777 the Pomfret district probate court in Connecticut ordered the estate of Josiah Fassett "late of Pomfret" to be divided and distributed to his heirs. On 10 Feb 1777 his estate was distributed to Mrs. Hannah Fassett, widow of the deceased, Josiah Fassett, eldest son, Reuben Fassett, second son, Elijah Fassett, third son, Hannah Fassett, eldest daughter, Molly Fassett, second daughter, Dorcas Fassett, third daughter, Lucy Fassett, fourth daughter.⁶
