Alexander's headstone reads: "Alexander Wheelock, died Apr 5, 1866, age 79." This doesn't compute with his birth date of 1786, given by "Wheelock Genealogy", Carlyle Capron Wheelock and Winifred Gonseth, and by the Orange Vital Records (Holbrook Research Institute Microfilm at Worcester Public Library), but the headstone is clear, and easy to read.

The children of Alexander and Lois are compiled from a variety of sources: (1) 1850 Federal Census, (2) Orange Vital Records, Holbrook Resarch Institute, Orange, MA, 1767-1891, and (3) Transcription of Early Handwritten Records of Orange, Franklin County, Massachusetts, Volume 1, by Ruth DeFonda Eldredge. Wheat Ridge, Colorado: Search and Research Publishing Corp, 2001 (as given by Robert Roy's Genealogical Files, www.TheRoyFamily.com, Apr 2005). These records are all consistent, though each appears to be incomplete. The microfilm of the Orange Vital Records, published by the Holbrook Research Institute, a copy of which is located in the Worcester public library in Worcester, MA appears to be the most complete, though the dates are extremely difficult to read. When the dates are not legible in the original records, they are taken from (3), a transcription of the Orange vital records. Since the transcription does not include their son, Henry M, and he is not included in the 1850 Census, a reliable birth date for him is not known..

Alexander, age 65, and Lois Wheelock, age 56, are enumerated in the 1850 Federal Census, living in Orange, MA. The following are enumerated in the same household: Adison P. Wheelock, age 30, chairmaker, E. Clark Wheelock, age 26, chairmaker, Elizabeth D.(?) Wheelock, age 24, Hannah B. Wheelock, age 21, and Esther Wheelock, age 16.

Next to the headstone of Alexander and Lois is that of their son, Levi A. Wheelock, died Nov 13, 1854, age 23.

On 30 Dec 1812, Augustus Wheelock, his wife Hannah, and their children Mary Wheelock, Hubbard Wheelock, and Jonathan Wheelock were warned out of town.¹

An Augustus Wheelock appears in the 1820 Census, living in Moriah, Essex Co, NY, age probably between 25 and 45, with 2 male children, 2 female children, and a female between 25 and 45.

An Augustus Wheelock appears in the 1830 Census (indexed under Whalock Ancestry.com in 2004) living in Moriah, age betwen 40 and 50. Living in the same household is a boy between the ages of 15 and 19, and young girl, under 5, two young girls between 5 and 9, one between the ages of 10 and 14, one between 20 and 29, and one woman between 40 and 49 (presumably Hannah).

Augustus does not appear in the 1840 Census, but Hannah Wheelock appears in Moriah, age 40-49. Living in the same household is one boy, between 15 and 19, one girl 10-14, another 15-19, and a woman 29-29.

This is, no doubt, the Augustus Wheelock who died in 1839, and is buried in the South Moriah Cemetery.

In 1850, a Harriet Wheelock, age 64, is living in the household of Belinda Wheelock and her husband, Amos Taylor; next to Jona Wheelock and his wife Juliet. This is probably Hannah Wheelock; and Belinda (buried in the same cemetery as Augustus, South Moriah) is probably the daughter of Augustus and Hannah.

The 1840, 1850 and 1860 New York Census show the following Wheelocks living in Moriah: Abner, H. S., Augustus, George W., Hannah, Harriet, Hubbard, John S., Jonathan R., Lorin, and Squire K.
