On 1 Feb 1834, Dana was appointed guardian of his nephew, Smith Brown, heir of Smith Brown, late of Burrillville. On 7 Apr 1834, Dana was appointed guardian of Julietta, Calvary, Minerva and James Munro Mitchel, heirs of Calvary Mitchel, late of Burrillville.1
Dana was a partner of Leonard Nason in the mill operations at Nasonville.2
He probably is the Dany Wheelock at Burrillville in the 1840 Census, age 20-29, with a wife age 15-19, and two children, a son and a daughter under 5.
He is enumerated in the 1850 Census, 43, with wife Mary and children, residing in Amherst, MA, occupation manufacturer.
Mary Wheelock was listed as head of household at Amherst in the 1860 Census, Dana not present.
Dana Wheelock, 60, manufacturer of woolen goods, is enumerated in the 1870 census, living in Philadelphia, with Mary Morton, age 40, born New Jersey, housekeeper.
Dana Wheelock, 73, real estate agent, disabled, and second wife, Mary, 53, were living in the Second Ward of Philadelphia, in 1880.
When a young man, Dana lost a leg in an accident. Quoting Carlyle Capron Wheelock: "During the usual 4th of July hilarity an over-loaded gun burst and a portion of it passed through his leg, necessitating amputation." Dana died at the home of his nephew, Charles Lapham, and was buried first in the Wheelock family cemetery in Burrillville (BU-106), but was later moved to the Nason lot at Nasonville (BU-39), where his wife and children were buried.3
