Lucy was born about 1821, probably in Batavia. She married Rice Hart Baldwin in May 1842 (Baldwin Genealogy). They lived in Oakfield, Genesee County, New York, for the remainder of their lives.

Lucy died 9 June 1860 (per Find A Grave memorial no. 66284067), probably shortly after giving birth to her namesake, Lucy Baldwin, who, according to the 1860 census, was born about April 1860. The infant daughter likely died young, since she appears in no further census (or other) records.

Research Notes:

The children of Lucy are grantors on a deed in Genesee County, dated 1 Apr 1865. Names of wives, places of residence, and the married names of the female children are included.¹

Ditto another deed with the same date.²

Frederick Beers in his gazetteer of Genesee County lists a child, Belle, who is buried in Cary Cemetery in Oakfield, with a headstone that says "Little Bell". Per Find A Grave memorial, Bell was born 17 June 1857, died 20 Nov 1869 in Oakfield. But in the 1860 census Belle does not appear with other children in the family. Nor does she appear amongst all the heirs of Rice Hart Baldwin in his 1864-65 probate records.

She is in the 1860 Census, age 39, with her husband Rice, age 67, living again in Oakfield, Genesee, NY. Children listed (all with Lucy): Henry, age 16, Charity, age 14, Charles A, age 11, Serepta F., age 9, Adelbert W., age 5, Freedus W., age 2, Lucy D. O. E., age 1 month.

She died shortly after giving birth to Lucy.

This could be the Seth Wheelock living in Bath, Steuben Co, NY, per 1830 Census, and living in Washtenaw, MI in 1840.

He is presumed to be the son of Calvin and Edith based on the following:

1) Calvin was known to have a son named Seth, per the letters of administration of Daniel Wheelock, Seth's presumed brother.

2) Seth was living in Steuben Co, NY in 1830.

3) The name 'Seth' runs in the family.

Seth Wheelock is enumerated in the 1850 Census, living in Richland, Kalamazoo Co, MI. He is shown residing in the household of Gardner Hunt; but immediately next door is his wife and family - possibly a census error. Seth is 47, born PA (sic). His wife Chrstina is 45, born NY. Martha J., age 16, born NY, Margaret, age 14, born NY, and John W., age 7, born MI are listed in the same household.

In 1860 Seth, 55, born NY, Christina, 53, born NY, and John W, 17, born MI are enumerated in Richland, Kalamazoo Co, MI.

On 30 Oct 1866 he was granted a patent for an "Improvement in Machines for Sowing Plaster".¹
