Nelson Henry Davis, unmarried, graduated from West Point in 1846, served in the Mexican War, was a major of the "regular" battalion at the first battle of Bull Run, commissioned colonel 4 Sep 1861, and appointed assistant inspector-general, United States Army on 12 Nov 1861.
