There is no proof that Martin is the son of Stephen Wheelock and Lucretia Newton, but he is presumed to be so based on the following arguments:
1) Martin, per Vermont VRs, died 16 Nov 1840, age 48, implying a birth date of 1792, the year in which Martin, son of Stephen and Lucretia was born.
2) Another child of Stephen and Lucretia (Walter) moved to Eden, VT in the same time frame that Martin did (ca 1810).
3) Walter and Martin engage in several land transactions together in Eden (Eden, VT Deeds 1802-1908, Vol 4, FHL Film # 28166; Book 3, Pages 99, 132).
Martin Wheelock was a delegate to the 1836 Constitutional Convention. (Src: "A Walk Through the Garden of Eden", published by the Eden Historical Society).
He left no will, but his administration of estate was filed in Lamoille Co, dated 1841, mentions Martin and Winslow Wheelock as administrators, and S. Wheelock as either a debtor or debtee.
"The Wheelock Family in America, 1637-1969", by Walter Tobey Wheelock indicates that Martin Wheelock married H. M. Stearns. This cannot be correct, given that this marrige occurred in 1874, per Vermont Vital Records. In fact, the Martin that married Hattie M. Stearns in Berlin, VT, was a grandson.
