James fought in the Revolutionary war. He appears on both the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Rolls. In 1776 he served in the Northern Continental Army in Colonel Timothy Bedel's regiment. In 1777 he served in Colonel Zebedee Redding's company, Gamaliel Bradford's regiment.
He married Lois Starkey 28 Jun 1774; the NH marriage record indicates both were of Swanzey at the time. On 26 Oct 1774, James Wheelock b. 1747, bought land in that part of Swanzey, NH, which was formerly a part of Richmond, NH. He sold this land in February 1782. These deeds were recorded in 1789 [1].
Roger F. Kelley, Dean Family Historian, says the following about James Wheelock:
James Wheelock married Lois Starkey. She was born in 1755 and died in 1810. Their children were:
1. child died 1/24/1786 2. another child died 12/20/1786 3. James Wheelock, Jr. born in Swanzey.
Notes:
[1] The Register of Deeds in Cheshire County mistakenly assert that James Wheelock first appeared in their records 1789, the date of record, rather than 1774, when he actually bought the land.
