Notes:

While Nancy Bloss shares a headstone with Thaddeus Wheelock, she was not his wife. According to the 1880 census, she was in the household of Thaddeus Wheelock, a widow, born about 1806 in New York, and is listed as the aunt of Thaddeus.

She wrote her will on 20 Oct 1885, and left everything to Lordiska Wheelock.¹

Her obituary is published in the 28 Oct 1896 edition of the Rome Daily Sentinal, on p. 1, col. 6. It reads as follows: "Mrs. Nancy Bloss of Vienna, widow of John Bloss, died at her home there on Monday night at the advanced age of about 90 years. Mrs. Bloss had lived at South Corners, about 16 years, moving there from Blossvale, where she had lived many years. She leaves no relative nearer than nephews and nieces." The newspaper was published on Wednesday; her date of death would have been two days earlier, 26 Oct 1896.

She is no doubt the Nancy Bloss in the 1855 NY state, 1870 U.S., and 1875 NY state censuses living in Annsville, Oneida Co, NY, not far from Blossvale, with her husband, John Bloss. John died in 1876, after which Nancy apparently lived with Thaddeus.

The 1855 NY state census says she was born in Montgomery Co, NY. The 1875 NY state census says she was born in Oneida Co, NY.

Her maiden name, and how she relates to Thaddeus is not known.

As the only son, Abel took over his father's homestead, and lived there as a farmer. He acquired the military rank of Serjeant-Major. He is buried next to his wife in the Nicteaux Baptist Cemetery. His headstone reads as follows: "Abel Wheelock; Died April 29, 1870; Aged 75 years".¹
