The 31 Dec 1916 edition of the Boston Globe documents the story of locating Manley M. Booth, the youngest son and heir of Mrs. Harmina Wheelock. He was to receive his mother's 40 acre estate near Buckton, St. Lawrence Co, NY upon the death of his step-father, Russell T. Wheelock. When Russell T. Wheelock died, the search for Manley M. Booth began. For years his whereabouts remained unknown, until he was found in an insane asylum, just a few days before the seven year statutory expiration, when the estate would have gone to his siblings.¹

Research Notes:

The evidence for the parentage of Lydia White is based on consistent vital records, and numerous connections between David and Lydia's families:

1) There is a 1726 Mendon birth record for Lydia White, daughter of William and Elizabeth, in a timeframe consistent with a 1741 marriage to David Wheelock, placing her at about age 15.

2) Lydia's father, William White, was a witness to the deed in which Benjamin Wheelock granted land in the County Gore to David Wheelock (Worcester deeds, book 26, page 17).

3) Benjamin Wheelock was named in the will of Lydia's grandfather, Thomas Thayer, to apportion a third of his real estate to his widow, Mary (Worc case 58821).

4) Lydia and David were second cousins.

There is another Lydia White birth in Mendon, d. Thomas and Deborah, born 16 Jan 1715/16. Thomas died before 12 May 1748, when his Worcester County wil was allowed (Worc prob case 64522). His children and some of his grandchildren are named as legatees, but Lydia is not among them.
