There is record of a Cyrus Wheelock enlisting in the Union Army, Civil War, 11 Sep 1861, age 24. He Enlisted as a Private, at Fredonia, NY. This is probably not the same Cyrus.
The 1870 Federal Census, Concord, Erie Co, NY shows Cyrus G. (or J?) Wheelock, age 21, living in the household of Lewis Wheelock (age 66) and Eliza (age 57).
According to the Petition for Administration of his fathers estate (Erie County Surrogate Court File # 24272), Cyrus lived in the town of Buffalo, NY, in 1884, when the petition was filed.
The 1890 Buffalo, New York Directory shows a Cyrus J. Wheelock engaged in real estate. Two locations are given for him: (1) "29 Coal and Iron Exchange", and (2) "286 Rhode Island". (Source: "Buffalo City Directory, 1890", Buffalo, NY, Courier Co., 1890; found at Ancestry.Com, Apr 2000)

Edwin Wheelock graduated from the University of Vermont, was a Congregational clergyman, a superintendent of Schools, a representative to the Vermont Legislature, and, briefly, a state senator. Edwin and Laura had six children, four of whom were surviving in 1892-93: Mary Ella (Mrs. B. R. Holmes of Cambridge), Lucy (of Boston, MA), Abbie Laura (Mrs. C. F. Hulburd of Cambridge), and George L. of New York. (Src: "Men of Vermont: An Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters and Sons of Vermont", compiled by Jacob G. Jothan served in the Revolutionary War. He entered service in 1781, at the age of 18, as a private.
There is an 11 Nov 1802 Vermont marriage record for Jonathan Wheelock of Cavendish and Relief Harris. Some have claimed this was Jotham, though supporting evidence is not cited.
Guardianships were drawn up for Jotham in 1817, and 1831, on file in Volume 3 of the Windsor County Probate office, VT. The probate index refers to him as "insane", which may explain why he is not listed in his fathers will, 1798.
Jotham is buried on the "old Saunders farm", on the upper end of the so-called Town-Farm Road. His monument, the only one in the cemetery, was erected by Col. William Wilgus, a descendant. Rufus Wheelock appears in the 1830 Census next to Noah and John Wheelock at Ervings Grant, Franklin County, MA. The North Brookfield death record for Rufus Wheelock identifies his birth place as Milford, and his parents as Timothy and Joanna Wheelock. His age at death is given as 84 y, 3 m, 1 d, indicating a birth date of 25 Oct 1768, which conflicts with the birthdate of his brother, Noah, who was born in Dec 1768.
The calculated birth date for Rufus Wheelock conflicts with the birthdate of his brother, Noah, suggesting an error in Rufus' death record, or Noah's birth record.
