Elias removed to Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia; probably in the late 1760's. Two of his brothers (Obadiah and Joseph) also went to Nova Scotia, and probably made the trip with him.

Boston marriage records show that Elias married Sarah Rice in Boston in 1766. The two were married by Reverend Mather Byles.

In the 1768 census of Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Elias is listed with two males and one female in his household, all American. The 1770 census shows Elias with four Americans in the household, most likely himself, his wife, and two children.
