The following obituary was published in the Mayville Sentinel, transcribed by Delores Davidson: 10/11/2007 - Dana McKinstry Wheelock, M.D., 80, of Central Avenue, Fredonia died Sept. 26, 2007 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born June 2, 1927 in Buffalo, the son of the late Harry E. and Clara (Dana) Wheelock. Dr. Wheelock graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca in 1949 and was a 1953 alumnus of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, specializing in general surgery. He served in the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps from 1945 to 1947. He joined the medical staff at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk in 1958, the same year that he opened his private practice in Dunkirk. Dr. Wheelock closed his surgical practice at 609 Central Ave., Dunkirk in 1992 and also retired from the Brooks Hospital medical staff. He was named the hospital's medical director in 1992 and continued to serve in that position until 1995. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he was a member of the American Medical Association, New York State Medical Society and the Chautauqua County Medical Society. Dr. Wheelock was awarded membership in the American College of Physician Executives, the nation's only educational and professional organization for physicians in medical management. Known for his close association with the WCA Home on Temple Street in Fredonia, Dr. Wheelock had served as president of its board of directors and played an instrumental role in the home's major expansion project. Survivors include his wife, Patricia 'Pat' (Whitham) Wheelock; four children, Beth Anne (Dale) Hudson of Jamesville, NY, Gretchen (Daniel P.) Garvey of East Aurora, Dr. Dana Wheelock of Binghamton, and Andrew (Karen) McK Wheelock of Fredonia; and nine grandchildren. *burial place not stated Mayville Sentinel Obit
