After her husband, John Gillett, Jr., lost his fortune she established a school for young ladies in East Windsor, Conn. The school acquired a wide and favorable reputation in New England, attracting many students from the Hartford area. Mrs. Gilett is described as a gentlewoman of great beauty, dignity, anad stateliness of manner.
An obituary of the day, referring to her said: "The hoary head is a crown of glory if it be found in the way of righteousness". She was nearly 92 years of age at the time of her death.
