According to "The Wights", by William Ward Wight, 1890, Elias Mann Wheelock "married about July 1864, and has a daughter born in 1865." This is consistent with the 1870 Federal Census, which shows Elias and his wife Mary living in Illinois, with daughter Nelly, born about 1865. The 1880 Census shows this same family (Elias M., Mary, and Nellie J.) living in De Soto, MO. Information about his marrige to Adelia Fleming is given by Anita Decotea, a descendant of Elias and Adelia.

James Wheelock was in Alabama when the Civil War broke out, but came North and enlisted in the Union army. After the war he returned South to look after his effects and was never heard from again. This story is relayed by William Ward Wight, author of "The Wights". He dedicated this book to the sister of James Williamson Wheelock, Sarah Wight Wheelock; so he must have been fairly close to this family.
