Another source indicates a birth date of 22 Apr 1806.
Luke Wheelock may have lived in Buffalo, NY, where his oldest son was born, before moving to Northeastern Wisconsin prior to 1850. There he worked as a lumberman in the area north of Green Bay. In 1852 he moved to Sonora, CA, along with his wife and daughter. In Sep 1852 they purchased property in Sonora known as the Miners House, from John Wedlock. On 1 June 1853, the Sonora Herald carried an article with the following headline: "Wheelock - and elderly miner at Dragoon Gulch is making 2-6 ounces per day for the past three weeks." Luke Wheelock was the 89th citizen of Tuolomne County to be listed in the Great Register of voters when he registered on 24 July 1866. His occupation was listed as wagonmaker.
Luke and Mary Jane Wheelock are both buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at San Franciso, CA, which has since been removed to Colma, CA. Probate records for Luke (Estate #375) and Mary Jane (Estate #892) are found in the office of the County Clerk, Tuolumne County, Sonora, CA.
