Amos was born about 1816. He was the son of Jonas Parmenter and Polly Bullock.¹

Amos Parmenter married Betsey C. Wheelock, daughter of Chapin and Lucy Wheelock, probably around 1838, based on their respective ages.²

In 1840, Amos Parmenter was living in Sardinia, Erie County, New York, age 20 to 29, with his wife (Betsey Wheelock), also age 20 to 29, and a girl under 5. His father, Jonas Parmenter, age 50 to 59, was enumerated on the previous census line, and his uncle, Levi Bullock, on the next census line.³

His wife, Betsey Parmenter, died in 1848, and is buried in Sardinia.⁴ Shortly thereafter, he married Eunice.

In 1850 Amos was living in Lima, Rock County, Wisconsin, age 35, New York, a painter by profession. He was living with Eunice Parmenter, age 17, born New York; Amos Parmenter, age 5 months, born Wisconsin; Lovinia Fillmore, age 17, born New York, and Sally Bullock, 40, born New York.⁵ His uncle, Levi Bullock, was living in an adjacent dwelling.⁶ The Sally Bullock, living with Amos, was likely Levi Bullock's wife.⁷

His father, Jonas Parmenter, died 25 April 1855, a resident of Middleton, Dane County, Wisconsin. His probate records identified the following heirs: his wife, Polly; and his children Amos, aged 38 years; Sally Colby, aged 34; Jonas, aged 32; Beulah Eastland, aged 28; and Coredelia, aged 24.⁸

In 1860, Amos B. Parmenter, was age 44, a painter, born in New York, living in Middleton, Dane County, Wisconsin, with Eunice, 27, Amos, 10, birth places not specified, Eunice, 5, Thomas, 3, and Mary, 7 months, the latter three all born in Wisconsin. Living in an adjacent dwelling was (his mother) Polly Parmenter, 72, born in Massachusetts, residing with her son (Amos' brother) Jonas Parmenter, 38, born in New York.⁹

In 1870, A. B. Parmenter, age 54, painter, born in New York, was living again in Middleton, with Eunice P., 37, born New York, Eunice B., 15, Thomas J., 12, Mary Kansas, 10, Corah Utah, 1, all surname Parmenter, all born in Wisconsin.¹⁰ His brother, Jonas Parmenter, was also living in Middleton, with his family, and his mother, Polly Parmenter, age 82, born in Massachusetts.¹¹

His mother died in Middleton, 15 Aug 1874.¹² She wrote her will 24 Dec 1867, and it was approved by the probate court on 20 Oct 1874. In it she left bequests to her son Jonas Parmenter, her daughter Beulah Eastland, her son Amos B. Parmenter, and daughters Sallie Colby and Cordelia Bailey.¹³ In 1880 Amos B. Parmenter was again in Middleton, age 64, painter, born New York, both parents born in New Hampshire (which conflicts with Polly's birth place in Massachusetts). His wife, Eunice P. Parmenter, age 45, born New York, father born New York, mother Massachusetts. The children in the household were: Thomas J., 22, painter, Mary K. 19, teacher, Cora E., 11, all surname Parmenter, all born in Wisconsin.¹⁴

Amos is probably the A. B. Parmenter that was a justice of the peace and postmaster in Middleton. He was a highly respected citizen, and to the shock of the community, he was indicted for embezzling government funds in September 1877.¹⁵

Amos B. Parmenter died before 14 Oct 1899, when notice of a land transaction from heirs of Amos B. Parmenter to Eunice P. Parmenter appeared in the Wisconsin State Journal.¹⁶
