Eliab Wheelock was a Private in the Revolutionary War. Private Eliab Wheelock marched on the Lexington Alarm, April 19, 1775, in Captain Samuel Woods company of Minute Men, under General Artemus Ward.
Though the birth of Abraham Wheelock does not appear in the Vital records, he is declared to be the son of Eliab by Andrew H. Ward in "Family Register of the Inhabitants of the Town of Shrewsbury, MA", published in Boston, by Same G. Drake, 1847. Abraham's Shrewsbury death record (Mass Archives 231:308) identifies his birth place as Northborough.
Mary Gassets's father, Henry, refers to grandson Gill Wheelock in his will, dated 20 Oct 1808; and bequeths to him "all my Blacksmithing Utensils".
The Boston Columbian Centinel, 11 Nov 1826 edition, gives notice of the death of John Wheelock of Northborough, aged 31 years. The actual death date, as given in the Northborough VRs is 1 Nov 1826, age 32y, 7m, 26d, implying a birth date of 26 Apr 1793. This may be a son of Eliab. Lending some credibility to this theory is the fact that Franklin Wheelock, age 23, lived with Polly (daughter of Eliab) and Edmund Parmenter in Northborough, per 1850 Federal Census. Franklin's 1851 death record (Mass Archives, Vol 59, Pg 157) indicates he was born in Northborough, and lists his parents as John and Fanny Wheelock.
Abigail Wheelock (1793 - 1861) is buried in the Howard Street Cemetery. The birth year on the headstone disagrees with her Shrewsbury death record; but this is, no doubt, the daughter of Eliab and Mary. Her sister, Catherine M. Wheelock (1801 - 1871), shares the headstone. Inscribed on the same headstone are members of the Powers and Chadwick families.
Eliab's death notice is found in the Boston Columbian Centinel, 11 Dec 1819 edition, and states that he died in Northborough, age 66.
